Juneau Alpine Club meeting minutes
March 3, 2010 meeting
JAC held its monthly planning meeting on March 3 at the Douglas Public Library. Attending club members included Tamara, Ron, Carl, Drew, Lori, and Bob. Lori was confirmed as Treasurer, replacing Bob. Thanks, Bob, for your contributions as Treasurer these past couple of years! Other JAC officers were voted for at the previous February 3 annual meeting.
Tamara reminded members participating in outdoor events to fill out the waiver sheet prior to starting. The waiver sheet can be found on the JAC website at: http://www.juneaualpineclub.org/files/release_form.pdf or from the website, http://www.juneaualpineclub.org
OLD BUSINESS
Recent Events/Hikes
The John Muir cabin – Peterson Lake Traverse took place February 12-15. This was a well attended event with about eight participants using the John Muir and Peterson Lake cabins over various combinations of one or two nights. Peterson Lake was still frozen. Some icy areas on the trail were encountered, necessitating ice grippers in places. The book in the Peterson Lake cabin mentioned the Peterson family, which mined gold in the Peterson Lake area. Some of the old mine ruins are still visible.
Dan Moller cabin hike – An easy hike into the Dan Moller cabin took place February 20 under clear, sunny skies. Ron, Burt, and Dave participated. Ice grippers, but no snowshoes, were needed. Respective up and down times were about 2 hrs 15 min. and 1 hr 35 min. The participants were surprised to not encounter any snow machines! JAC understands that the Dan Moller cabin, which has been around since the ‘30s, will be torn down this summer and replaced with a new cabin.
Rock dump – A rock dump practice session took place February 24. Megan, Shauna, Carl, Jan, and Matt participated.

A rock dump practice session is scheduled for March 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Contact Carl (723-9323) for details. Because JAC’s promotion of the rock dump favors its economics, JAC will consider whether to seek a small discount for future sessions.

A ski & snowshoe tour of West Peak is scheduled for April 3. Contact Don (463-3400) for details.
