Juneau Alpine Club meeting minutes
July 6, 2010 meeting
JAC held its monthly planning meeting on July 6 at the Down Town Public Library. Attending club members included Tamara, Ron, and Bob.
Bob has the most recent bank statement and will give it to Lori at the next meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
Recent Events/Hikes
On June 8 Drew led an evening hike up Mt. Ben Stewart. Accompanying him were Carl, Lori, Jan, and Burt.
On June 14, Ron hiked to Granite Creek Basin. The lower basin was mostly snow free, but substantial snow fields could be seen in the upper basin. He saw several semi-palmated plovers feeding on insects on the snow patches.
On June 19, Bob hiked up Gastineau Peak. On that same day, Ron hiked up Ben Stewart. Ron reported easy hiking on last year’s dry vegetation from the Wedding Bowl up through diminishing snow fields to the summit. Tamara and Greg did likewise on June 20. These hikers were rewarded with sunny weather.
On June 26, Tamara and Greg hiked up Mt. Roberts.
The planned Mt. McGinnis hike took place on June 27, rather than June 26, in response to a more favorable weather report. Ron, Jon, Anne, and Burt participated and were rewarded with good, albeit cloudy, weather.
Forthcoming Activities
On July 10, Tamara will lead a climb up Mt. Olds. Contact Tamara (463-3211) by 7 p.m. Thursday evening July 6 for more information.
On July 31, Burt will lead a hike up Blackerby Ridge to Observation Peak, then to Granite Creek Basin. Contact Burt (723-1848) for more information.
On August 13-15, Carl will lead the Split Thumb climb. Contact Carl (723-9323) for more information.
On August 21, Ron will lead a hike on the Mt. Clark Traverse, starting from the Basin Road trailhead to the Tram. Contact Ron 586-8211 by 7 p.m. Friday, August 20 for more information.
The next meeting will be 7-8 p.m., August 3, 2010 at the Douglas Public Library.
